A 13-year-old Staten Island boy took his own life on Thursday after students at the private school he was attending bullied him mercilessly, his family said on Friday.

Danny Fitzpatrick wrote a letter before his death that described the ordeal of dealing with bullies at Holy Angels Catholic School.

“He bullied me,” Danny wrote about one of his former friends. “They did it constantly until I went into a fight.”

I wish that I could tell every kid out there who feels that they aren’t worth it, to hold on. It hurts like hell when you don’t have anyone to talk to or anyone you can trust. It is hard to go it alone but you will make it through. It is a leap of faith but it is worth it in the end. Stand tall, stay strong, this too shall pass.

Yeah, but unless you’d been in that darkened place that only you knew, and experienced what it felt like to lose all hope completely and come back out of all of that, you won’t know what it’s like, inside the minds of those who’d attempted or committed suicide…

You are right. You can never know what is in another person’s mind and you can only recall your personal experiences in the hope that maybe they will help.

Completely agreed. Each of us has our own stories. Each carries its own importance. It is up to us to share those stories in the hope that what we have been through might help others going through a similar situation, such as attempted suicide – which many of us have walked that fine line.
